a retro-perspective on K.F. Schinkel

Starting of from Schinkels concepts, the project is organized into sequences of spectacles, which can be divided into two strategies. First the sequence as a discrete spatial configuration and second the frame as a  tool for specific moments/moods/views. Those operate on different scales - from urban to buildings themselves. The spectacle are expressed in different form, language and function. The sequence can be based on precise, rational set of transformations and discrete architectural elements.

Schinkel uses 5 different atmospheres to create spatial sequence:

• Trees to complete the building and his surrounding, to create a new whole.

• Stairs to guide the people on a new level of experiences and to have a framed view of the city.

• Portico as a semi enclosed entrance hall.

• Narrow circulation space.

• Spectacle Space which is not visible from the outside and has a different formal language.

The Meaning of the sequence derives from the order of experiences rather than the order of composition -----> FRAME (moments of the sequence).

By creating a big central outdoor plaza (urban spectacle) the Think Tank components react on its surrounding in different manner. The discrete building elements are instrumental for framing "urban" (site specific) views and experiences which guide visitors into the central space. Their outer facades frame views into the park from various elevated locations, the inner ones are in service of the central space. Terraces are located at various buildings to get a specific view into the city landscape.
